To Catch a Cloud by Elena de Roo & Hannah Peck
We’ve said it before, but many of the very best children’s books can often be miniature works of art. To Catch a Cloud is an example of how a picture book can fuse poetry, storytelling and astounding artwork to create a captivating and exhilarating whole.
A boy and his dog challenge the wind, the waves and the clouds to a race. As he whizzes across the land, sea and water the leader of the chase ebbs and flows between the boy and the elements to dramatic effect.
To Catch a Cloud is a fierce, constantly shifting moveable feast, underpinned by Elena de Roo’s poetry, which blends perfectly with Hannah Peck’s stunning images. A perfect book to absorb alone or to read aloud. We hopefully look forward to more picture books by this dream team in the future.
Gobbledy Special Price £3.50. RRP £6.99
While most of our books are only £2.50, we sometimes find something nice, that falls outside of our normal price point. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on these extra special titles, they might cost a bit more, but they still offer great value for money!
Footnote: Hannah Peck is an illustrator to watch. Her incredible drawings and two-page spreads for this book were inspired by the colours of the French Impressionists and classic painters of storms such J.M.Turner.
Synopsis -
I spy a cloud go floating by
Where do you go, Cloud, so high?
To the sea
She sings
Where the wild gulls fly
Then catch me if you can
I cry
We race each other to the sea
Can''t catch me, Cloud
Can't catch me
A boy and a dog follow a cloud out to sea, but as the weather worsens he relies on the whales and waves to bear him home.
